Your Hair Porosity & What It Means
What is Hair Porosity?
Porosity is a measurement of your hair's ability to absorb and hold moisture. You can also think of it as indicating how easily moisture can penetrate your hair. Porosity is determined by the structure of your cuticle- the outer layer of your hair.
How To Figure Out Your Porosity
Take a strand of your hair and put it in a bowl of water. Wait for 2-4 minutes.
It Floats.
If your hair strand floats it means that you have low porosity hair. Your cuticles are tight and the hair doesn't absorb moisture or water easily.
It Floats in the Middle.
You have medium porosity hair. Your hair has a looser cuticle layer, allowing for a steady but moderate flow of moisture in and out of your hair. Your hair holds styles easily.
It Sinks.
If your hair stand sinks to the bottom you have high porosity hair. Your hair absorbs all water & moisture but doesn't retain any of it.
